Old Goat is a new restaurant located right in the heart of Western Michigan University's campus. I found that the restaurant is a great hangout spot for fun-seeking college students; as I walked in, loud pop anthems were playing from its speakers, feeding the energy of the crowd inside. Going in, I thought that it would be no more than a typical sports bar, and I was interested in it only because of its novelty. My family and I sat down, seeming out of place, surrounded by Western students, and I was wondering if it was worth coming to the restaurant. After placing our orders, I heard one of my favorite songs come onto the speakers, and as I started to sing along, I also began to smell the aromas floating around me, and I knew that the restaurant had potential.
My entire family ordered burgers, which is the specialty of Old Goat Tavern. Their burgers are special because they are made with three slim patties of beef. I ordered the first thing on the menu, The Goat burger, which had creamy goat cheese, house-made bacon jam, and roasted garlic aioli. My mom got the breakfast goat burger, which had fried egg, bacon, cheddar, and mayo. My sister, Lena, ordered a build your own burger with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. We also ordered a two-potato basket of fries, which were crispy and had barbeque seasoning. Initially, I did not think that I would be able to eat my whole burger because it had three patties, but my burger was so delicious that I was able to finish the entire thing. The Goat burger was the best thing that my family tried, and it is easy to see why it is the first thing on the menu. If you go to the Old Goat Tavern -- which you should -- I recommend getting the Goat Burger, as it is one of the best budget burgers that you can get in Kalamazoo.
