Western Classical Music Lessons
I have been taking voice lessons in Classical music for three years now. I perform at
District/State
Solo & Ensemble three times a year, all of which are adjudicated. I have managed to receive
Division I
rating for my
performances so far. My wonderful voice teacher teaches me techniques involving warm-up, breathing,
stretching,
posture, head voice, chest voice and expression.
Choir
At school, I am part of the Novi Singers choir group that represents the highest level for
advanced singers. I am proud of our group as we have been one of the two teams
selected to perform at the Michigan Music Conference event in January at
DeVos Place.
I have been in school choir for the past five years (six if you count this
year). I was one of the two
students to be selected into Bella Voce in auditions, intermediate choir for girls in my freshman
year iteslf. Subsequently,
I moved up into Novi Singers with consistent practice and hard work.
Indian Classical Music Lessons
Learning the traditional Indian Classical Music from age four has given me a great foundation in
vocal
singing which I continue to practice to hone my singing skills. This is a very old form of music
founded in 14th century AD. I perform at various places and partcipate in national level
competitions. I have been blessed to have won several prizes over the years. This year I won second
prize in a competition conducted by Sivan Fine Arts Academy. I was
also a finalist
in Carnatic Idol, a reputed TV Series in 2013. I am really thankful for the constant support and
encouragement my parents and teachers have given me throughout my music journey.
Fundraising Events
I always look for opportunities to give back to the community with my singing skills. I sing in
several genres: semi-classical, fast, melody. I also love exploring various languages and so far
have managed to learn songs in a few different Indian languages including Hindi,
Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil. The versatility has helped me participate
in several fundraising events for local and global organizations. This year I
recorded an album of devotional songs and sold them to raise money for SV Temple, Cleveland. I am
excited with my current project dedicated to soldiers, planned to be released in January.

Meditation sessions
I have been practicing Heartfulness meditation for almost two years and have greatly benefited from
it.
Heartfulness meditation offers practical techniques for improving our mental, emotional and
physical health. This year, I have taken the initiative to organize relaxation and meditation
sessions for high-school students and staff. I have conducted relaxation and meditation sessions
for the teachers during lunch-time. My friend and I prepared a presentation together to provide an
overview to our school staff.
Taekwondo
I have been practicing Taekwondo since childhood and I have achieved 2nd Degree Black Belt level.
Taekwondo has taught me self-defense, teamwork, leadership and confidence. I practice forms
(pumsae in Korean) to keep myself physically active and fit. Not only do I love this martial art
but also
the loving environment at Kil's Taekwondo. With all the years of association, the Taekwondo
teachers are now like family members and are very close to my heart.
