Inspiring Women
Arts

Edmonia-Lewis

Edmonia Lewis

Edmonia (Wildfire) Lewis was one of the few women in the 19th century to pursue sculpting, but when she started sculpting, she was the first woman of African American origin to have ever done it before. Her sculptures are all related to the poem Hiawatha. She is inspiring because she pursued her dream even though nobody else suported her during her times.

Gyo-Fujikawa

Gyo Fujikawa

Gyo Fujikawa got a scholarship at the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute, where she studied drawing, painting, design, and layout. Later she worked in the Advertising Art Department at Disney. Fujikawa was one of the first American artists to include children of different races in her artwork. She inspires me to be diverse with my choices.

Mary-Weiser

Mary Weiser

Mary Weiser belonged to the Ink and Paint Department in Disney. She introduced chemistry to the field of animation, which created a big transition in celluloid animation. Weiser also set up the world’s one and only paint lab dedicated to celluloid animation. She inpires me to think out of the box.
