Who are we?

My name is Makenzie Coe and I am a senior at Lake Shore High School. Upon graduation, I will embark on furthering my educationImage: Makenzie Coe with the goal of entering into a career in the medical field. Technology plays an ever-increasing role in every aspect of the health care industry. This includes back-end office functions such as insurance enrollment and management, patient monitoring tools in emergency rooms and doctors’ offices, imaging devices, and medical devices implanted into the bodies of patients. Advance Web Design has been one of my favorite classes at Lake Shore along with calculus, sciences and Spanish. When not in school, I can be found running around the soccer field or spending time with my friends.

My name is Hunter MacLeod and I'm a Senior at Lake Shore High School. I am a figure skater and have been skating since I was Image: Hunter Macleod six years old. I am very committed to school and skating and I put my full effort into both, so I can reach future goals. I am very interested in web design and have learned a lot from taking Intro to Web Design last year and Advanced Web Design this year.

Technology courses we have completed in high school
Technology Courses
Course Name Course Description Same Software Used Different Software Used Work Samples
Career Tech We both took this class. In this class, we used the computers to build employability skills-problem solving, decision-making, critical thinking and computer literacy. We had to make a resume, cover letter and a four year plan for after high school. The class is getting us prepared for our furture to get hired for a job and different study skills.

Web Design We both took this class at the same time. In this class, we rendered photos on Photoshop Elements 9, learn HTML and CSS on Notepad ++, and multimedia creations. Both of us were able to make a website for the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation with different themes. Web Design will help us in real life situations to put us above our competition.
  • Notepad ++
  • Photoshop Elements 9
Advance Web Design We are currently partners working in this class to create a more complex website than last years. We were able to have a higher caliber of concepts about photoshop and CSS. Some different aspects than normal web design is having a external styles page and creating an animation. We made a website about helping to heal the places around and entered it into the Michigan Council of Women in Technology.

Why did we do it?

We did not feel powerful as we watched natural and manmade disasters raze those areas to which we felt such a personal connection. We empathized with those that lost so much with a communal sense of shock, grief, depression and sadness. Therefore, when asked to contemplate what powers we possess and how we apply them to do well, we immediately knew we had the capability and competency to help. In a world where our nation’s collective attention span lurches from one “breaking news” event to the next, we recognized that awareness and interest in these events would quickly fade away. In fact, one would struggle to find much mention of the impacts of Hurricane Irma, the California wildfires or local pollution in the past month while we were working on this project. We have the power to harness technology in order to sustain attention on, and drive support toward, the plight of the people and environments impacted by these tragedies.
