Repurposing of Waterbottles

A Garden

Most of us have heard about how people negatively affect the environment -- either by reading the Environment section on the BBC News page, or by learning about it in our science classes, or by hearing environmentalists protest about how our carbon footprint increases every year. (The last one is usually accompanied by a graph with a single red line that soars off the chart). However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Each one of us, as individuals can make a difference between the common act of turning off the lights when you leave a room and the extreme act of eradicating pollution worldwide forever.

For example, Harrison High School’s Green Team started a garden recently. But what makes this garden special is the water filtering system, which is made by recycled plastic water bottles. These water bottles border the walls of the garden, and this ensures that the plants are getting the minerals they need, whenever they need it.

This may not seem like much, but somewhere in the world, the Green Team’s efforts ensured that these plastic water bottles did not end up in already-full landfills. What can you do today that can make a difference?
