Pretzel Jello

Pretzel Jello is a tasty summer treat. It is a dessert of multiple layers. Layers consist of jello, strawberries, pretzels, and cool whip. On my dad’s side of the family it is everyone’s favorite dessert because it is unique and delicious. Pretzel jello is only 322 calories per serving! It takes the place of cake on birthday every year for most of the family. My family doesn’t do this, but some recipes say to make this dessert better, replace the pretzels with graham crackers!

My partner and I traveled to my grandma’s house to experience this being made first hand. We learned the importance of making each layer separately. First we gathered and prepared all the ingredients.
  • 3/4 cups of melted butter
  • 1 1/2 cup of crushed pretzels
  • 3 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 cups of whipped topping
  • 8 ounces of softened cream cheese
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 packages of strawberry Jello
  • 2 packages of sliced strawberries
For the first layer, we chopped and crushed pretzels, which was very hard work, and mixed the pretzels with three fourths cups of melted butter and three tablespoons of sugar. Flatten this mixture into a pan and bake for ten minutes at 350 degrees. Next, we mixed eight ounces of cream cheese, ¾ cups of sugar, and twelve ounces of cool whip and spread it on the dried first layer. Next, we made jello. We made the jello by combining boiling water, cold water, jello mix and cut strawberries. We let this thicken then poured it over the first two layers. The pretzel jello then sat in the fridge until the jello became firm, which for us was about 45 minutes. We then took it out and enjoyed our new favorite summertime treat!
