Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose - it teaches you about life.

Tennis has been with me since I was 10, and joining the Girls' Varsity tennis team freshman year was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. My tennis team is like my second family, and I have gone through so much with them. Tennis is not always rainbows and sunshine, though. To improve I had to fail many, many times. But what mattered was that I was able to learn from that failure, and apply it to the next match. I struggled and I lost, that much is true, but I also improved and won. Tennis has not just improved my athleticism. It has taught me teamwork, perseverance, and hard work. As the current 1 Singles player for Novi, I helped my team advance to the Division 1 Girls' Tennis State Finals and place 6th last season.

Sports has the power to make a difference in the lives of others', too. I am currently working on bringing a tennis program called ACEing Autism to Novi and the surrounding area. In essence, ACEing Autism is a 6-8 week program that teaches children with autism how to play tennis. It gives children with autism an opportunity to improve their focus and control while learning how to play tennis and socialize. This is a cause that allows me to combine my passion for volunteering and service with my passion for tennis. I have recruited students from my tennis team that share the same passion and others whose lives have been affected by autism. I am so excited to bring this program to life!
