Dogs helping youth
There is an organization called Paws for people, they have a program called Paws for Reading.
In this program, children have a chance to improve their reading through practice by reading to therapy dogs.
Kids find it easier to read to a dog than a person because the dog won’t judge them if they make a mistake.
This program can take place in libraries, schools, or anywhere the child feels comfortable.
The children can pet the dog while they read, and sometimes a dog will snuggle up to them or lick them while they read.
This helps to calm a nervous reader.
There's also a program called Paws for Reading Plus.
It is the same as Paws for Reading except it includes a training session that teaches the children skills and techniques to help their reading.
There is also another program called Therapaws that is a member of R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs).
It is just like the Paws for Reading program.
Studies show that reading to therapy dogs actually works because reading scores increased for the kids who read aloud to the dogs.
