Hypatia of Alexandria

Hypatia of Alexandria

Hypatia was one of the first recorded women to study and teach math. She was known as The Egyptian Wise Woman. Math is my favorite subject in school, so she inspires me to keep doing great at it.

Elizabeth Blackwell

Elizabeth Blackwell

Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman in America to receive a medical degree. She founded the New York Infirmary for Women and Children, and The London School of Medicine for Women. She realized that “prevention was better than cure,” and in her lectures she advocates for better hygiene standards in hospitals and homes, to prevent diseases like typhus or the flu from spreading. She is inspiring as she had many achievements at a time when not many people believed that women have the ability to accomplish great things.

Hertha Ayrton

Hertha Ayrton

Hertha Ayrton was the first woman to win a Hughes Medal from the Royal Society in the UK. She invented a better electric arc and furthered our understanding of electric current. She was also the first woman accepted into the Institution of Electrical Engineers. She inspires me to keep working towards my goals and achieve great things.
